Physical Therapy

What is Physical Therapy?

PT is a process of restoring an individual’s physical abilities to the highest possible level after an injury or medical condition.  It involves a comprehensive and personalized approach, including therapeutic interventions, exercises, and support to help a person regain functional independence and improve their quality of life.

Which body parts do we treat?

The highly skilled therapists at Central Virginia Physical Therapy specialize in all aspects of orthopedic physical therapy and all treatments are specifically tailored to each patient.  With our training and knowledge, we are able to diagnose and treat dysfunctions in most regions of the body, to include:

Common PT Techniques :

Therapeutic Exercises:  Tailored exercises and stretches to improve strength, flexibility and range of motion.

Manual Therapy:  Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilizations, soft-tissue mobilization, and stretching to reduce pain and improve movement.

Electrical Stimulation:  Using electrical currents to stimulate muscles and promote muscle contractions for strength and pain-relief.

Dry Needling: Dry needling is a technique that the therapists at CVPT use for pain and movement dysfunctions stemming from underlying musculoskeletal causes.

Ultrasound:  Utilizing high frequency sound waves to promote tissue healing and reduce inflammation.

Heat and Cold therapy: Applying heat to relax muscles and increase blood flow, and cold to reduce swelling and pain.

Taping and Bracing:  Applying specialized tapes or braces to support injured areas and promote proper healing.

Balance Training:  Exercises to enhance stability and prevent falls, especially in older adults.

Neuromuscular Re-education:  Techniques to improve coordination and control of muscles after an injury or surgery
