Vestibular Rehabilitation
Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized form of therapy that aims to help individuals manage and alleviate symptoms of vestibular disorders, which affect the inner ear and balance. This therapy involves various exercises and manual techniques designed to reduce dizziness and enhance the brain’s ability to compensate for issues in the vestibular system (inner ear, eyes and brin). The trained therapists at CVPT can treat vertigo, the most common vestibular dysfunction with more than 90% success.
The Vestibular System
The vestibular organs of the inner ear provide the brain with information about the body’s position and motion, allowing us to maintain stability and adjust our movements accordingly.
Symptoms
- Dizziness
- Feeling “off balance”
- Blurred vision
- Light headedness
- Feeling like the ground is moving
- Nausea
- Unexplained loss of balance with positional changes
Vestibular Rehabilitation
The focus of vestibular rehabilitation is to eliminate the occurrence of vertigo with positional changes, balance re-training to assist in fall prevention during daily activities, and stretching/strengthening exercises designed to improve balance during standing and walking.
